Orangutan Salvation: Utilising an Innovative app and website to drive tangible change in Orangutan population numbers and the health of their natural environments.
Research
To gain a comprehensive understanding of our target audience's needs, motivations, and behaviours, we conducted a series of in-depth interviews and a thorough competitive analysis.
This research enabled us to identify key user journeys and establish the need for a robust online presence.
By mapping out potential user interactions, such as donating, adopting an orangutan, or learning about our conservation efforts, we can ensure that our digital platform effectively meets the needs of our audience and drives meaningful impact
The website’s goal is to raise funds and rebuild orangutan habitats. By simplifying the user journey and reducing decision overload, the site aims to inspire visitor action.
With the foundational wireframe now complete, my focus shifted towards crafting a compelling design system that would truly resonate with the Orangutan Salvation's mission. To achieve this, I embarked on more in-depth research, exploring visual elements that evoke the natural world and the essence of the orangutan's habitat. The resulting design system thoughtfully incorporates a palette of nature-inspired colours, drawing primarily from the rich spectrum of greens found in lush rainforests and the warm, inviting oranges reminiscent of the fruits they consume and the earthy tones of their environment. Complementing this colour scheme is a vibrant and engaging visual style, carefully chosen to enhance the overall aesthetic of both the website and the mobile application. This deliberate approach aims to not only capture the user's attention immediately but also to foster a deeper connection with the orangutan's world, ultimately encouraging engagement and support for their salvation.
To create a powerful and emotionally resonant user experience, the home screen image - video loop will take viewers on a poignant visual journey through the challenges facing orangutans
Across a carefully curated sequence of five impactful screens, I aimed to visually narrate the heart-wrenching reality of rampant deforestation, the subsequent devastating loss of vital orangutan habitat, and the alarming decline in their precious population.
Each screen was meticulously designed with the specific intention of evoking profound empathy within the viewer and igniting a powerful desire for action. The immersive home screen experience unfolds this compelling narrative through a seamless and continuous loop of five distinct yet interconnected visual stories. Each screen serves to paint a vivid and emotionally resonant picture of the orangutans' plight, starkly showcasing the brutal destruction of their irreplaceable natural habitat.
However, amidst this stark portrayal of loss, each screen also subtly weaves in a crucial glimmer of hope. I visualised the potential for the vital restoration of their ravaged forests, depicting the gradual regrowth of lush canopies and the eventual, triumphant return of these magnificent creatures to their protected wild homes. This delicate balance between depicting the crisis and showcasing the possibility of positive change was central to the design approach, aiming to inform and move users towards active engagement in orangutan conservation efforts
By engaging users on an emotional level, the aim is to motivate the user to support the mission and become active advocates for Orangutan Salvation.
This project focused on creating the user-friendly Orangutan Salvation website and app. To achieve this, I conducted thorough research, including competitor analysis and user personas. The design process encompassed clear information architecture, wireframes, logo creation, and high-fidelity mockups, emphasising a clean, visually appealing interface with compelling storytelling and clear calls to action.
User experience was prioritised through early prototyping and usability testing, with a strong focus on accessibility compliance. The core goals were to increase donations, adoptions, and volunteer sign-ups for orangutan conservation.
